Have a swingin’ time at the best golf courses in Leeds!
You don’t need a green jacket or a millionaire’s net worth to tee off in Leeds. Around here, you just need a smidge of patience and a knack for locating the right green that fits your expertise or wallet.
The tricky bit is that West Yorkshire doesn’t make picking easy, with around 87 courses to choose from. Asking around, bouncing between joints, or Googling for the best spots can eat up your precious seconds faster than Tiger Woods can sink a 1-yard putt.
That’s why we’re here. Our team whittled down the endless options to only the absolute best.
Leeds Golf Centre
– From ellierobinsongolf
Address: Wike Ridge Ln, Shadwell
Contact Details: 0113 288 6000
Operating Hours: Daily – 8 am to 8 pm
With a jaw-dropping woodland backdrop and softly undulating greens, Leeds Golf Centre is a knockout for both first-timers and old hands.
Learners and triers can hone their swings at the Oaks 3-par course, featuring 12 holes that can be head-scratching but still newbie-friendly.
If you want a bit of challenge, the 18-hole Wike Ridge championship course is especially favoured by the pros. There’s a 629-yard-long second hole here that will test those golf lessons you took.
Tip: The place gets busy from 12 pm to 3 pm. Dodge that window if you’re after some peace and quiet.
Cookridge Hall Golf and Country Club
– From cookridgehallgolfclub
Address: Cookridge Hall Golf Club, Cookridge Ln
Contact Details: 0113 230 0641
Flexing an 18th-century clubhouse, the upscale Cookridge Hall Golf and Country Club sweetens the game with gold-standard services. Oh, and the 18-hole, 72-par course is meant for novices and experts alike.
Forgiving sections include the back 9, with two par 5s and par 3s, though passing both leads to the aptly-named ‘Temptation,’ a final hole that punishes wayward tee shots. The rest requires wits and skill, particularly with all the bunkers and water hazards around.
Tip: Book as a group for a chance to snag discounts or special deals.
Moortown Golf Club
– From moortown_golf_club
Address: Moortown Golf Club Drive, Harrogate Rd, Alwoodley
Contact Details: 0113 268 6521
Operating Hours: Daily – 9 am to 6 pm
Moortown Golf Club has ‘historic’ in its resume, being the first to host a Ryder Cup in British territory—the legendary 1929 USA vs Great Britain match. Nowadays, its 18-hole course presents a proper challenge, even for vets.
If you’ve been golfing for ages, you know how hard Moortown’s Gibraltar is—a par 3, 10th hole infamous for calf-burning steep zones and an obstacle-filled green. The fairways are also wide, and being a moorland course, the turf varies and feels ‘springy.’
Tip: They offer catering services ideal for golfers hosting events.
Alwoodley Golf Club
– From alwoodleygolfclub
Address: Wigton Ln
Contact Details: 0113 268 9603
Operating Hours:
- Mon to Fri – 8:30 am to 6 pm
- Sat – 7 am to 6 pm
- Sun -8 am to 6 pm
We never get tired of playing on the 18-hole, Mackenzie-made course of Alwoodley Golf Club. Yes, this one is set on a strip of moorland and is heavily bunkered, but the heathland’s subtlety and Augusta-like looks are worth the challenge.
The team is also mad about its hard but fair fairways—testing players with their fast-running, tight, and springy layout. As for the greens, they’re expanding and undulating, so thinking meticulously before swinging is a must.
Tip: Up your game or learn the ropes with their golf lessons.
Headingley Golf Club
– From headingleygc
Address: Headingley Golf Club, Back Church Ln, Adel
Contact Details: 0113 267 9573
Operating Hours: Mon to Fri – 7:30 am to 8 pm
No matter the season, Headingley Golf Club offers a swinging time, as confirmed by our ‘wet’ rounds on its beautifully designed and varied 18-hole, par 71 course. Beyond that, we’re fans of its out-and-back style, offering changing sceneries and a balanced challenge.
From what we’ve experienced, the course’s exposed layout turns properly tricky when the wind blows. Other challenges we encountered include contoured greens and long holes—all doable with a bit of forward thinking.
Tip: Be early for a less stressful parking experience.
Village Golf Course
– From _mrbevan
Address: Backstone Gill Ln, Wike
Contact Details: 0113 387 3480
Operating Hours:
- Mon to Fri – 8 am to 3 pm
- Sat to Sun – 7 am to 3 pm
We’re usually buried under a mountain of work, so just imagine the euphoria we felt after discovering the Village Golf Course. This 12-hole parkland pitch had us de-stressing by playing quicker rounds, the newbies included.
Cracking deal, this one, too—especially if you rock by during weekdays when wallet-friendly twilight discounts are offered.
In terms of challenge, the elevated third hole that’s about 190 yards will put you to the test. The rest is manageable.
Tip: Dial the digits if you have plans to throw a party. They can host shindigs of at least four people.
Howley Hall Golf Course
– From andrewrigbygolf
Address: Howley Hall Golf Club, Scotchman Ln, Morley
Contact Details: 01924 350100
Operating Hours: Mon to Fri – 9 am to 5 pm
Mixing things up keeps the swings more enjoyable, as illustrated by the Howley Hall Golf Course. Through its 18-hole, tree-lined swathe, almost no challenge is the same—think short greens, tight fairways, and blind holes.
If it’s your first time gripping a club, though, there’s no need to skip; some sections won’t require you to become Tiger Woods for a second. The first hole, for instance, is considered gentle, with most players saying that birdies here aren’t a rarity.
Tip: Familiarise yourself with their strict dress code to avoid garb-related hassles.
Hollins Hall Hotel, Golf & Country Club
– From hollinshall
Address: Hollins Hill, Baildon, Shipley
If you think golf can’t get posher, Hollins Hall Hotel enters the picture. This luxe destination has a 200-acre course, sprawling with well-maintained fairways, a series of hills, and immaculate Aire Valley panoramas.
The real hurdle is its hilly and wind-exposed layout, but don’t stress too much, as players of all handicaps have completed the entire thing. Also, picturesque holes, like the par 4 19th hole, compensate for the difficulty.
Tip: Consider booking via sites like Expedia or Trivago. They often have lower prices.
Sand Moor Golf Club
– From paultheweatherman
Address: Alwoodley Ln
Contact Details: 0113 268 5180
Operating Hours:
- Mon – 8 am to 6:30 pm
- Tue to Wed – 8 am to 7:30 pm
- Thu to Sun – 8 am to 6:30 pm
Sand Moor Golf Club’s 18-hole course requires you to be at your A-game. The par 3s are proper tough, while the heathland locale presents some pretty soily hurdles. Getting solid shots is no cakewalk.
That said, it’s far from being extremely unfair or ‘too ancient.’ The greens are fast and true, there are long and short holes throughout, and bunkers aren’t randomly sprinkled across the 6,446-yard Mackenzie links.
Tip: Get a feel for the course without leaving your home via their online tour.
Oulton Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort
– From golfingdays
Address: Oulton Hall, 2 Rothwell Ln, Oulton
Contact Details: 0113 282 1000
Operating Hours: Daily – 8 am to 8 pm
We experienced true mirth by combining a laid-back stay and a few rounds at Oulton Hall Hotel. Nobody in the team had gripes with the 27-hole course, which looked like it had been copy-pasted from a leafy postcard.
Still, we had to carefully plan our shot placements, chiefly at the hill and dale Calverley section, where numerous bunkers altered our strikes.
The upside is there’s a Trackman Range if the greens (or the sun) are still too daunting for you. Flexible golf tracking and tour-proven tech are just a sample of its perks.

Roundhay Golf Course
– From twgolf__
Address: Park Ln, Roundhay
Contact Details: 0113 266 1686
Operating Hours:
- Mon to Tue – 8 am to 7 pm
- Wed – 8 am to 8 pm
- Thu – 8 am to 7 pm
- Fri – 8 am to 8 pm
- Sat to Sun – 8 am to 7 pm
The parkland-style Roundhay Golf Course gave us that classic 9-hole experience—breezy with a side of cursing around the more difficult parts, like the sloping par 5, second hole. Luckily, the mature and chaos-free woodland setting easily tamed our frustration.
Don’t get us wrong, its 5,322-yard stretch with a par of 70 is mostly beginner-friendly. What’s more, there are numerous conveniences around, such as free parking with CCTV, practice facilities, and a club slinging bevs and grub—not bad for a pay-and-play course.
Tip: Don’t leave your pups staring at the window. You’re free to take them for a walk here.
Scarcroft Golf Club
– From scarcroftgolf
Address: Syke Ln
Contact Details: 0113 289 2311
Operating Hours: Mon to Fri – 7 am to 6 pm
Sensational all year round, Scarcroft Golf Club promises tranquil parkland scenery, smooth undulation, and well-maintained fairways, rain or shine. You must gear up for a challenge, though.
‘Tough but fair’ is what most patrons call this club’s 18-hole, 6,456-yard course, and we’re on the same page. The opening holes alone require fast greens, though the good news is it’s one of those par 70 courses designed for strategizing and not brute forcing.
Tip: Give the open days a crack. They’re fit for testing your game or snagging prizes.
The Bradford Golf Club
– From djolihodges
Address: Hawksworth Ln, Guiseley
Contact Details: 01943 875570
Operating Hours: Mon to Sun – 8 am to 6 pm
Designed by Herbert Fowler, The Bradford Golf Club’s 18-hole course flaunts natural aesthetics and holes that will generally make you play against the wind. That means this one is no picnic.
The smaller greens with burrows further crank the difficulty, with some severe slopes and bunkers making things extra puzzling. You’ll hardly complain about the condition, though. Things stay tip-top here, the fairways, the clubhouse, and even the gear.
Tip: Take advantage of their pro shop. It offers golfing drip from major brands and bespoke services like club fittings or repairs.
Fulneck Golf Club
– From paperthinly
Address: Fulneck, Pudsey
Contact Details: 0113 256 5191
Operating Hours:
- Tue to Wed – 12 pm to 6 pm
- Fri to Sat – 12 pm to 8 pm
- Sun – 12 pm to 6 pm
Fulneck Golf Club is 120 years old but still as polished as ever. The gang tested its 9-hole course, and it gets an A-tier rating from us just for being well-kept and entertaining alone.
Rolling through a parkland, we had to take careful and focused shots, as the holes were quite hilly, mainly the 9th. We still got through it, and the £10 fee for nine holes made the toughness bearable.
Tip: Throw a sophisticated or high-voltage party at their function suite, accommodating up to 120 guests.
City Golf Leeds
– From citygolfleeds
Address: Redcote Ln
Contact Details: 07919 462544
Operating Hours:
- Mon to Fri – 6:30 am to 10:30 pm
- Sat – 6:30 am to 5 pm
- Sun – 6:30 am to 10:30 pm
You can’t go wrong with taking the fam to City Golf Leeds, a sweet 11-minute ride from the city centre. Though undulating, the nine holes are kid-friendly, made all the sweeter by the reasonable prices, trolleys for hire, and parkland nature.
The fairways are flat as well, so figuring out the distance and line-up shots doesn’t take Justin Rose-level of skills. Even so, you must still don your game face. The raised tree lines will obstruct shots.
Tip: Download the map to avoid getting lost.
